Announcements

  • As we move forward and the state prepares to open up, we are re-tooling our summer program to comply with all COVID-19 Social Distancing protocols concerning outdoor recreational activities and Day Camps.
We are working with the Weymouth Health Department, receiving guidance from the Massachusetts State Department of Health, CDC and the American Camp Association. Additionally, we are gathering information from Recreation Departments from all over Massachusetts. (Massachusetts Recreation and Park Association)
The focus of both Wey-Fun and Esker, will be to keep groups small and contained. Limiting interactions from other groups as much as possible.  Cleaning, cleaning and more cleaning. We’re going to clean everything we use constantly. We will be staying outside in the open air and only seeking shelter from the elements when absolutely necessary. Staff will have face coverings. Campers may need them as well. (More info on face covering as we receive additional info from the State.)
We will have more details of day to day operations as the State releases guidance.
Here is what we have planned for the Summer.

    WEY-FUN
WeyFun will look a lot different than previous years but will include similar activities that all the campers are accustomed to.  A combination of playground games, sports, and arts and crafts will be done with the best possible practices of maintaining as much distance as possible and frequent cleaning of high touch areas.  Unfortunately, the aquatics aspect will be removed from the program as we will have no transportation to the beach.  Balancing out the day with activities and ample social distance breaks will ensure that we have the best experience possible and make it fun for everyone.  The staff looks forward to seeing their campers and making the most out of this time.
    • Dates: July 6-August 28
    • Times: 9:00-3:00
    • Weekly Full Day only
    • No Early Drop off, No Extended Care, No Single Day, No Half Day, No transportation
    • Fee: $160/Week
    • Ages: 4-15 (this includes LIT aged teens)
Where we will be: (25-30 children per site per week) – Subject to change.
    • Legion Field
    • Lovell Field
    • Brad Hawes Park
    • Webb Park – NOT WEBB STATE PARK
    • O’Sullivan Park
    • Stella Tirrell Park
    • Julia Rd. Park
    • King Oak Hill Park
Due to the complete overhaul of the Wey-Fun Camp, we will be canceling and crediting all existing Summer 2020 registrations. This will create a household credit on your account for whatever you have paid. THIS IS NOT A REFUND. Credits can then be applied to your new registration. IF you wish to receive a refund, please contact Ryan MacLeod via email at Rmacleod@weymouth.ma.us. Please provide him with your name, child or children’s name, address and phone number.
WEY-FUN LIT’s - the LIT program will run but it will be modified. More details to come. Once we have determined how the LIT’s will function, we will send out a notification.

    Great Esker Park Programs

Esker Nature programs will run somewhat similar to how they have in the past. Exploring nature, playing in the mud and tidal streams, looking for creatures big and small. Art, games and activities focused on nature and Great Esker Park will still be the main theme. Differences will be that, kids will be in much smaller groups and will be separated from others during their day. Social Distancing will take place as much as is possible. The park is big enough for us to really spread out and enjoy every part of it that we safely can.

The Esker-Esque Program will be combined with the Wey-Fun Julia Park Program. Activities will be much the same as Esker-Esque. The kids will utilize Esker Park, the playground and baseball field.  All current Esker-Esque registrants will be automatically transferred over to the Julia Park Program.
    Dates: July 6 - August 21
Times: Program times will largely remain the same. However, afternoon classes will not be an option in most cases.
No Early Drop off, No Extended Care.
Fee: Fee’s will largely remain the same.
Esker Adventure Programs - We will be offering a modified Esker Adventure Program. The weeks will include a mix of adventures. Drop off and pick up will happen at the site of the day as we will not be able to utilize our vans.
Due to the nature of some adventure programs, that are a little too out of the way for folks to reasonably drop off and pick up and where it will not be possible to maintain safe distances between children and staff or maintain sanitized equipment. There will be some Esker Adventure programs that have to be canceled. Credits will be administered automatically. IF you wish to receive a refund, please contact Andrew Hultin via email at Ahultin@weymouth.ma.us. Please provide him with your name, child or children’s name, address and phone number.
    Canceled Programs Include:
    • Learn to Ride
    • Middle School Adventure Club
    • Biking
LIT’s - The LIT program will run but it will be modified. More details to come. Once we have determined how the LIT’s will function, we will send out a notification.

With that, we have developed a timeline for folks to re-register or register for our Summer Programs which will appear online this week for viewing.

June 1 - 7 - Families who have already registered for the summer of 2020 will be able to re-register for the Camp and site they want to attend.  Credits for all Camp payments made earlier this season will be applied to your household account.  When paying for the new summer program, utilize the credit first then, if you still have a balance, enter your credit card info.  All transactions must be completed online as our office is still closed to the public.
June 8 - 21 - Weymouth Residents that have not registered for the summer of 2020 will be able to sign up for summer programs.
June 22 - July 2 - Registration will be open to all.

As stated in our earlier emails:
Health Forms - If you submitted a Health Form last year. We still have it.  There will be no need to submit another one for this summer.  If we don’t have it already, we will communicate a policy/procedure at a later date.
Camp ID’s - If you have an ID that expired in December, you do not need to get another one for this summer. We are extending the date of expired ID’s to August 28.  If you don’t have one, you will be asked to bring a recent picture of your camper on your first day with us and we will create an ID that can be used this summer. For students of Abigail Adams or Chapman, your current school ID will also suffice for us.
WEYREC T-Shirts - Since our sites throughout town will have far fewer kids, the need for age related, color coded WEYREC shirts is reduced.  Therefore, a WEYREC Camp Shirt of any color will do. If you don’t have a Camp Shirt and would like one (because they are pretty awesome), we have a limited supply and will have them for sale via curbside pick-up (how we do that is still T.B.D).  Otherwise, the kids can come to our program with a shirt as close to resembling our colors as possible.  Red, Gold, Sandy, Lime Green and Light Blue.
Vouchers – We have been in contact with QCAP. They are currently waiting for guidance from the State on how to proceed with summer camps. Please watch for notices.

    Still To Be Determined
Rain Day Cancelation policy.  Due to the crowding variables during severe weather, we are working on a Rain Day Policy. It is likely we will not be able to hold our programs if there is sufficient cause for us to need shelter for more than brief intervals.
We will have more information as we continue to work out the details of #WEYREC2.0. Please bear with us as we continue sort this out and put it all together.

    Thank you for your patience.
  • With the order from Governor Baker to keep schools closed through June 29 due to the CODID-19 emergency, and after consulting the Weymouth Health Department, Weymouth Recreation has decided to temporarily pause our existing Summer Camp Registration.
We are currently in the process of restructuring our summer program in order to safely meet the needs of children, staff and families this summer. We will be working with the Weymouth Health Department, seeking guidance from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, the Massachusetts Division of Community Sanitation, the CDC and the American Camp Association.  Additionally, we are networking with our colleagues from the Massachusetts Recreation and Park Association which includes Park and Recreation professionals from all over Massachusetts to develop a summer program that will keep your children safe, allow them to get outside to play and socialize with their peers during the summer.
The basic structure of our Wey-Fun Camp will likely be of small groups at local parks throughout town. This structure will limit the number of people that come into contact with each other on a daily basis. We will provide games, projects, activities, adventures and fun into each day. (Our staff is amazing and they are already brainstorming ideas for the kids).
The Great Esker Park programs will also be modified into smaller groups spread throughout the park exploring nature and discovering creatures big and small.  A modified plan is also coming together for our Esker Adventure travel programs.  Some Esker Adventure programs may not be able to run.

As our plan comes together, vetted and refined, we will publish our summer response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
